Sullivan flies high in volleyball victory
By Dick Sparrer
Gen. Jimmy Doolittle was a famed World War II flying ace. But around Los Gatos High School these days, no one's talking much about Gen. Doolittle—the only flying ace they know is Shaun Sullivan of the boys volleyball team.

Sullivan was flying at the net and drilling service aces last week to lead the Wildcats to two more wins in the De Anza Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League.

Sullivan hammered a team-high 10 kills and knocked down six service aces to lead the Cats to an easy 15-1, 15-6, 15-2 win over Santa Clara to open the week.

Fletcher Anderson supported with seven kills and Jesse Barron finished with four aces.

Two nights later Gatos made short work of Saratoga, winning 15-3, 15-6, 15-10 to remain undefeated in league play. Keith Catanese led the Wildcats with 11 kills. Anderson was tops with seven service aces and Ryan Holst led the club with 15 assists.

The two wins helped Gatos improve to 9-0 in division play with only three league matches remaining. The Wildcats were to visit Homestead on April 29, then, after hosting Mt. Madonna in a non-league match on May 1, they will host Mountain View on May 6 and visit Fremont on May 8 to close out the regular season. Matches begin at 7 p.m.

The Los Gatos junior varsity team will host a tournament on May 3 in the high school gym.

Netters win

The Los Gatos boys tennis team rolled to a 7-0 win over Gunn last week to improve to 12-3 in the De Anza Division and to 23-5 for the year.

Standout senior Will McAlister cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles to start the Cats on the road to the victory.

Sophomore Brian Brogan won 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, junior Victor Larssen won 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3 and freshman Patrick Brogan won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4.

Junior Lee Gerston teamed with freshman Chase Huebner for a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 1 doubles. James Lok and Derek Fong won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles and Drew Froehlich and Matt Solomon won 6-1, 7-5 at No. 3.

The Wildcats were to host Saratoga on April 29, 3:30 p.m., before competing in the SCVAL individual championships on May 1.

Henry is 1-under

Nat Henry cared a one-under par 33 at the LaRinconada Country Club to lead the Los Gatos golf team to a 155-163 non-league win over Menlo School last week.

The Wildcats came back later in the week battle Milpitas to a 157-157 tie at the Santa Teresa Golf Course.

The Cats are now 6-5-1 in the El Camino Division and 10-5-1 for the year.

Timbrook leads Cats

Freshman Kyrie Timbrook doubled and singled twice to drive in two runs to lead the Los Gatos girls softball team to a tight 3-2 De Anza Division win over Mountain View.

Junior hurler Melissa Mullins tossed a five-hitter for the win. She blanked the Spartans for six innings before giving up two runs in the seventh. But her teammates had rallied for three in the fifth to give Gatos the lead.

Virginia Fritsch also had three hits for Los Gatos and Camille Cardinale added two.

The Cats, 11-10 for the year and 2-4 in league play, were to visit Wilcox on April 29 and will face Santa Clara at Central Park on May 1, 7 p.m.
