Who says teenagers are only into modern-day music?
A group of Los Gatos High School juniors and seniors are defying that stereotype by showcasing their classical talents at a May 16 concert.
The brainchild of junior Ina Soh, the event will feature performances by seven students and will benefit the school's Theater Improvement Project.
"We have a small group of students who are really excellent in music," Soh said. Most of those students have studied their respective instruments for many years, yet are not members of Los Gatos High's musical groups. As a result, they rarely are given a chance to exhibit their skills in front of a school audience, Soh said.
Soh gathered together the musicians—including herself, Kevin Cho, Matt Ebrahimoon, Audrey Harrison, Jennifer Lee, Angelique Parson, David Seo and Daniel Zimardi—to plan an evening that would benefit the school in some way.
After speaking with performing arts chairwoman Diana Pleasant, Soh decided to contribute to theater improvements, a project that will cost roughly $1 to $2 million. The proceeds of the tickets—$10 for general admission, $7 for senior citizens and $5 for students—will go to the project.
The concert starts at 8 p.m. in the Prentiss Brown Auditorium.
