Although the weather might be confused as to what season it is, Los Gatans can pretend it's a summery, spring day with a strawberry culinary class at Sur La Table. Carolyn Weil will demonstrate while instructing on a full strawberry feast—creating strawberry sponge cake, orange-scented strawberry shortcake, strawberry cream tarts, and bittersweet chocolate-dipped strawberries. Sign up soon for the $45 May 22 class, held at 6:30 p.m. at Sur La Table on 23 University Ave. at the Old Town Center. To sign up, call 1.866.328.5412.
If a more dense, lush seasonal spread suits your palate, beeline to Kuleto's Italian restaurant at Hotel Los Gatos on May 15 for a Kuleto Estate Family Vineyards wine sampling paired with delectable dishes by chef Tim Benham. The dinner is $65 per person and begins at 7 p.m. with the first of four courses.
Wines poured will include a 1999 Kuleto Villa Sangiovese, a 2000 Kuleto Estate Chardonnay, and a 2000 Kuleto Estate Cabernet. Dishes include roasted halibut cheeks with crab-mashed potatoes and bacon-wrapped filet mignon with truffled cioppolini onions and baby artichokes. For more information call 408.354.8290.
If you'd rather forget the formal attire for a day spent shopping and sipping in Los Gatos, enjoy a host of happy photos at the Los Gatos Coffee Roasting Company, shared by Lynn Miano, the owner of Classic Kids Photography. The collection, up through May, boasts 25 prints showcasing old and new photos of adorable little locals.
