Sidekick wins medals at nationals
By Dick Sparrer
It's not often that a team competes in a national competition, and every team member comes home with a medal.

But that's just the feat that the members of the Sidekick Martial Art and Fitness team accomplished recently at the 2003 Tae Kwon Do Won Nationals held at the War Memorial Gymnasium at the University of San Francisco.

Master Alex Alamul, a former world champion and fifth degree black belt, took a team of 11 martial artists from his Campbell school to the competition and they brought home 15 medals, including five gold.

Striking gold for sidekick were Jose Ochoa, Michael McDonald, Niaz Kazemi and Lilia Kazemi of Los Gatos and Bilal Chamsine of San Mateo. Diana Munoz of Campbell won a pair of silver medals for the local club. Others winning silver medals were Baron Maschmeyer of Campbell, Kristen Leckrone of San Jose and N. Kazemi and L. Kazemi.

Picking up bronze medals for Sidekick were Chad Pearson of Los Gatos, Maschmeyer, Negar Kalanter of Saratoga and Timothy Caposio of San Jose.
