Local schools will hold graduation ceremonies

Next week is graduation week for most schools in the area as the school year draws to a close. Fisher Middle School has its ceremony for eighth-graders at 6 p.m. on June 11 at Calvary Church. The high schools will have their celebrations on campus: Leigh High School fêtes its seniors on June 12 at 5 p.m. on the school's football field; Westmont High on June 12 at 4:30 p.m. in the school stadium; and Los Gatos High at 6 p.m. on June 13 on the front lawn.


LGUSD honors distinguished employees

Employees in the Los Gatos Union School District recently named four of their own as distinguished employees for 2003. The four were payroll technician Marilyn Brickman, technology assistant Harry Dill, ceramics and science teacher Steve Hum and science and math instructor Sandi Yellenberg.


LG's Malek on nationally ranked engineering team

Alan Malek, a sophomore at The Harker School and a Los Gatos resident, is a member of the Junior Engineering Technical Society (JETS) varsity team, ranked number one in the nation after taking tests in engineering aptitude, mathematics and science. The eight-member team took a one-day exam at Stanford, and Harker was the only California school to place in the top three. Harker's junior varsity team, which includes Los Gatan Joel Wright, placed first in the state and third in the nation.
