Forget clubs and coffeehouses—you can discover rousing music just about anywhere in Los Gatos.
On June 12, Los Gatans can join residents at the Los Gatos Meadows for a classical performance by husband-and-wife team Roger Nelson and Karen Iglitzin.
If the name Nelson sounds familiar, it should—Roger is the son of Bill Nelson, who was previously featured in the Los Gatos Weekly-Times for his paper-rolling efforts to support charity.
Roger, a pianist, composer and conductor, will perform with his wife, a renowned violinist and chamber music instructor, from 6:45 to 8:15 p.m.
Los Gatos' Music in the Park will soon be setting up camp at the civic center, with big band and swing set Mark Russo and the Classy Cats launching the series on June 22 at 5 p.m. Performances will continue through August, with steel drum reggae, salsa and pop music all getting into the mix.
Another venue off the beaten performing path is St. Luke's Episcopal Church, which will be hosting a summer sunset series through August. The series starts on June 28 at 8 p.m. with the 14-person handbell group Sonos performing "Sing & Shout," a show inspired by a variety of song and dance traditions, including arrangements by Tchaikovsky and Shenandoah. Tickets ($20 for adults, $12 for seniors and students) are said to sell fast, so pick them up soon by calling 408.354.4560 or send a check payable to St. Luke's Church to Sunset Series Tickets, St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 20 University Ave., Los Gatos, 95030.
