As time zooms by and life continues to be hectic, it's essential to take a few moments to reflect and re-energize.
Although kitties can just curl up and nap all day long, those of you who have jobs and families don't have such a luxury. A nice stroll through downtown Los Gatos might do your body good, or even better, visit the Los Gatos History Museum before Aug. 5 to check out its Native American artifact exhibit. This is a terrific place to gain perspective on the challenges faced by people living far before your time—making your troubles with palm pilots and soccer practice pickup seem slightly less bothersome.
The exhibit showcases a mix of rediscovered artifacts of the museum, as well as items on loan. The museum is hoping the show will act as an educational tool, teaching and reminding residents about the cultural and historical past of nearby native peoples.
To enhance the experience, weekend programs are being held through August, which include traditional dancing and basket weaving lectures, seminars on Plains Indian ceremonies and Pow-Wow etiquette, and meetings with local tribal elders to discuss tribal history.
Museum staff amassed the exhibit by meeting with artifact experts and private collectors, as well as local tribesmen, for their assistance and blessing of the show.
The history museum is open Wednesday through Sunday, from noon to 4 p.m. Admission is free, with a $1 suggested donation. For more information call 408.395.7375.
