If variety is the spice of life, then the Alive and Loving Life fundraiser featuring Habanero will suit your taste buds.
In order to raise money for the organization, which seeks to promote drunken driving awareness and education, the fundraiser will take place on July 7 at the as-yet-unopened Forbes Mill Steakhouse. The casual-dress event will begin at 5 p.m. with notable local band Habanero dishing out spicy sounds throughout the evening, followed by a wine auction to cool the palate. The cost, $50 per person, is tax-deductible. To reserve a spot, call 408.354.8700, ext. 250.
In addition to fundraising events, Los Gatos loves its art scene. And that favorite pastime was recently recognized by the Arts Council of Silicon Valley, which awarded several grants to Los Gatos arts organizations. The grants were given as part of a program through the Organizational Enhancement Fund, which provides general operating support for administrative and artistic development for local professional and semiprofessional groups. Out of 45 selected organizations to receive money, Los Gatos recipients included the Art Docents of Los Gatos, the San Jose Jewish Film Festival, the Town of Los Gatos Arts Commission and the Alliance of Visual Artists in Monte Sereno.
Young artists will also get a chance for recognition through the Wild Bird Center in the King's Court Shopping Center. The retail store is asking for original artwork and poetry related to birds and birding from any children in kindergarten through 12th-grade. The first prize winner will receive a complete young naturalist kit.
