Police Report
Stray Animal—July 1, 11:11 p.m. Two dogs were running loose in the neighborhood around Prospect Avenue. They were going through people's garbage, and the neighbor who reported the problem said it was an ongoing situation. One dog belonged to a resident on Prospect, and the owner was advised. Police advised the neighbor who had made the complaint to call animal control about the other dog, since it was not known where it lived.

Firearms Heard—July 1, 10:03 p.m. A woman heard what sounded like rifle fire possibly coming from an area above Greenridge Terrace and Blossom Hill Road. She said she had heard shots on and off for the past half-hour, with some sounding closer to her home and others farther away. When police arrived, everything was quiet.

Battery/Spouse Beating—July 1, 9:35 p.m. A couple got into an argument, and the woman hit her husband on the chest a few times. There was no alcohol involved, but the husband thought his wife was possibly taking medication. They said that they had had prior disturbances but never reported them to the police. Police took a report.

Injured Animal—July 1, 8:48 p.m. On Highway 9 near Daves Avenue, a deer was hit by a car. The deer was lying in the median of the roadway. No report was needed, as the deer got up and went on its way.

Neighborhood Disturbance—July 1, 7:35 p.m. On Newell Avenue, a loud piece of equipment had been running nonstop for several days in the backyard of a home. The equipment, possibly an air conditioner or pool cleaner, was backed up against a neighbor's fence. The neighbor called police, since the homeowner was on vacation. Police turned off the pool sweep.

Battery—July 1, 5:49 p.m. A transient hit someone walking on N. Santa Cruz Avenue and then followed the victim down the street. The victim said no medical attention was needed and did not want further action to be taken. Police gave the transient advice, and he promised to behave for the rest of the night.

Argument—July 1, 1:40 p.m. A woman was being evicted from her University Avenue home and was very upset. She was yelling at the people representing the homeowner, and she called police. A locksmith served the eviction. Police had the locksmith remove some items for the woman so she could leave; the property owner was contacted and agreed to file trespassing charges if the woman returned.

Welfare Check—July 1, 12:44 p.m. Police received a call from a 94-year-old woman who said her sister was supposed to arrive somewhere a day earlier but had never showed up. She could not get her on the phone. Police went to her home and found the woman, who complained of lower back pain. She was taken to Kaiser Hospital.
