The rhythm of summer is surely sweet—long days, warm nights, and the sounds of birds, bees and barbecues. And the performance by Aziza Music and Dance Ensemble at Oak Meadow Park on July 25 should make it even sweeter.
Performing traditional African dance and drumming, the 15-person ensemble features a mix of American and African performers. The group will perform from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. as a free family event.
As part of Music in the Park, a free opera concert by Opera San Jose will be held on July 27 from 5 to 7 p.m. on the lawn of the Los Gatos Civic Center. Also on July 27, author Michael Hemp will be reading and signing his new book, Cannery Row: The History of John Steinbeck's Old Ocean View Avenue, at Borders in Old Town on July 27. The book is packed with historical photos of Cannery Row, highlighted by in-depth commentary by Hemp.
Serious drama enthusiasts have one last chance to check out the performance of King Richard III on July 26 at the Los Gatos Shakespeare Festival, while kids can enjoy Cyrano! on July 25. Those looking for comedic fare can attend The Taming of the Shrew on July 24 or 27. All shows begin at 8 p.m. at Oak Meadow Park. For more information, visit www.festivaltheatreensemble.org.
