It takes more than just one day for an LGHS reunion

Hail to dear Los Gatos High, alma mater fair ...

Anyone who has ever attended Los Gatos High School as a student knows what a special place it is. The beautiful grounds, the talented faculty, coaching staff and administration, and the active parental support groups have all combined to make the high school experience a memorable one for Los Gatos students.

Because of it, many graduates have fond memories of their time as Wildcats. So when it comes time for reunions, Los Gatos classes can't seem to get by with just a single night's affair—they need a weekend.

This year, that weekend is Sept. 1921 when the Los Gatos High School Alumni Association and the New Millennium Foundation will co-host the All-Alumni Reunion Weekend at the high school campus and other venues in town.

Nestling 'neath a mountain sky, like a jewel rare ...

Festivities begin with an alumni dinner at Johnny's North Side Grill prior to the Friday night alumni football game when the Wildcats host St. Francis. Former Los Gatos football players will be recognized during halftime activities. The culmination of the night will be an old-fashioned sock hop in the high school gym.

A full day of events is planned for Saturday, beginning with a breakfast with former high school teachers and tours of the campus. But the big event of the day is the New Millennium Foundation auction that will run from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Opera House.

NMF, under the dedicated leadership of Joanne Rodgers, has become a major fundraising arm of the high school over the past two years. The organization has funded grants of more than $275,000 for the school, including $99,400 for science, $56,700 for athletics and $55,600 for information technology. Through NMF's efforts, the educational and high school experience has been enhanced for Los Gatos High School students.

Currently, NMF has thrown its support to the Theatre Improvement Project at the school. The group is working with the high school in an attempt to transform the aging Prentiss Brown Auditorium into a first-class performing arts facility that will benefit not only the high school students, but also the community.

Once again we pledge our love, love that cannot die ...

To continue its efforts for the school, the foundation needs the support of the community—especially Los Gatos alumni students and parents—to participate in its fundraising campaign. Simply put, that means donations for the TIP drive and participation in the Sept. 20 auction.

Saturday activities during the alumni weekend will conclude with reunions for the classes of 1948, '58, '63, '73 and '83. The weekend wraps up a day later with a special picnic at Oak Meadow Park for all alumni, their families and their friends.

It's the All-Alumni Reunion Weekend, because Los Gatos High School is such a special place that graduates can't get by with just a single night's affair.

Cherishing our mem'ries of, dear Los Gatos High.
