Kapp, defense lead Gatos frosh-soph to 46-14 win
By Nick Tuttle
Once again the Los Gatos frosh-soph football team's defense dominated its opponent, and the result was a 46-14 win over Milpitas for the young Wildcats. Only the Milpitas defense as the Cats rolled to the lopsided victory.

Will Kapp led the Los Gatos offense with three touchdowns, two on the ground and one through the air. They were aided by an interception return by Marty Mullins and a punt return by Michael Gault, both for scores.

Kapp opened the scoring with a 66-yard dash off right tackle after a Gatos holding penalty had pushed the Cats back to their own 34 early in the first quarter. On the next possession, Mullins intercepted a pass and rambled 39 yards to the Trojan endzone.

Unfortunately, on the next series, Milpitas got the points right back when Vikram Deol intercepted a pass in the flat and scored for the Trojans, making the score 12-7. Milpitas went ahead 14-12 moments into the second quarter when another pass was intercepted by Matt Torres at the Los Gatos 12-yard line and he scored from there.

Later in the quarter, A.J. Comeau ran twice for 18 yards behind strong blocking by Carlos Alonzo, then took a screen pass in the left flat the last 29 yards for a Wildcat touchdown. Late in the half a three-play drive set up by a Kapp interception included a 17-yard run by Gault, a 10-yard completion to Mullins and a 40-yard strike from Danny Sullivan to Gault.

A muffed second half kickoff and a dropped lateral pinned the Trojans deep in their territory. Gault fielded the Trojan punt and carried it to the endzone making it 32-14. From there Kapp took over and scored on a 7-yard pass from Sullivan and on a 7-yard run. The fourth quarter saw many substitutions as Ryan Black took over at quarterback, and Andrew Clark carried the ball effectively as did Danny Frey and Michael Martino.
