| Members of the San Jose Opera Guild celebrated the opening of the San Jose and San Francisco opera season with a gala dinner Sept. 25 at the Los Altos Golf and Country Club. Entertainment was provided by Svetlana Nikitenko, soprano, who has sung with both San Jose and San Francisco operas, with accompanist Elizabeth Igudesman. |

| The grand opening weekend of Westfield Shoppingtown Oakridge started with a preview benefit Oct. 3 for the South Valley Family YMCA. The evening featured a reception with food and drink and movies in the new Century theaters. When the ticket sales were combined with a $4,000 contribution from Westfield, the South Valley Family YMCA had $20,000 for teen programs. |
