50th wedding anniversary for local couple
Louie J. and Nadine A. Hernandez celebrated 50 years of marriage with more than 150 family members and friends at a recent celebration at the Los Gatos Elks Lodge. The party featured a Mariachi band and a surprise folkloric dance performance by their 10-year-old granddaughter, Nadine Johnston, and her dance group, Ballet Folklorico of Fremont.
Wed in Reno, Nev., on Oct. 3, 1953, the couple has lived in Los Gatos for 40 years. Louis owns and manages El Gato Auto Upholstery in Campbell, which has been open since 1972. Nadine formerly worked for the Los Gatos School District for 18 years and now works with her husband at El Gato Auto Upholstery.
Organizing the anniversary celebration were the couple's four daughters—Norine Hall, Louise Arata, Elizabeth Kent and Elaine Grover. Although the sisters grew up in Los Gatos together, the event was the first time all of the family had been together in 13 years.
