Cindy Ranii, superintendent of Los Gatos­Saratoga Joint Union High School District, will hold a budget summit meeting on Oct. 23, 6:30 p.m., at the district office, 17421 Farley Road West, Los Gatos. The meeting will review goals for the year, and there will be a full report on the current year's budget and multiyear projections from Ranii and district Chief Business Officer Bob Peterson. The district is examining options for a reliable local stream of revenue that cannot be taken by the state, such as a parcel tax.

Mark this date for chili cook-off, fun

Lakeside Elementary School, located above Lexington Reservoir in Los Gatos, is hosting its first annual Chili Cook-Off on Nov. 15 for staff, parents and community members. This will be a day of food for everyone and activities for the kids, including games and holiday crafts. There will also be first-, second- and third-place prizes for the best chili recipes.

The event is sponsored by the Lakeside School Community Foundation, a California nonprofit whose purpose is to raise financial support for the school's educational and enrichment programs.
