Los Gatos girls second in
Center Meet

Saratoga juniors Alicia Follmar and Hari Subramaniam each had something in common with the Los Gatos girls cross country team at the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League Center Meet on Crystal Springs last Tuesday—they all finished second.

Subramaniam romped over the 2.95­mile course in Belmont in 16:21.5 to finish second for the Falcons in the boys varsity division, and Follmar ran 18:04.1 to take second in the girls varsity race.

But it was Los Gatos packing five runners in the top 20 in the girls division to finish second to Milpitas in the tune-up for the upcoming SCVAL finals.

Sophomore Ariana Nicewonger was sixth in 19:52.2 for the Wildcats with soph Jacqui Kemp 14th in 20:54.7, freshman Samantha Peppard 17th in 21:08.7, senior Ashley Harris 19th in 21:16.8 and freshman Jillian Goodwin 20th in 21:21.3.

Los Gatos finished third behind Santa Clara and Gunn in the boys varsity race.

Senior Greg Geldman led the Los Gatos effort, finishing sixth in 16:56.4. Freshman Jimmy Jantho was 13th in 17:32.6 for the Cats with frosh Matt Petrillo 21st in 17:48.3, senior Tyler DeSantis 26th in 17:53.6 and sophomore Seth Smart 27th in 17:54.2.

Los Gatos won the team title in the boys frosh-soph division. Don Gaspar was third in 18:20.9 to lead the Gatos effort in the race. Matt Snee was sixth, Jon Berthet eighth, Sam Robinson 11th and Kai Hayashi 21st.

Stephanie Girsback of Los Gatos was fourth in 22:18.3 to lead the Los Gatos girls to a team second in the girls junior varsity division. Freshman Shoshana Newman was seventh in 22:38.2 with Shannon Kehrig 14th, Sanishya Fernando 19th and Ashley Kita 20th.

Jon Marshall of Los Gatos finished 11th in 19:31.3 in the boys JV race.
