In addition to the festive decorations dotting the town, Los Gatos is ready to celebrate fall with two concerts that should appeal to those looking for something other than mainstream pop or rock.
For the second evensong concert this season, St. Luke's Episcopal Church is hosting organist Douglas Bruce, from Arlesheim, Switzerland.
Bruce will perform after the traditional evensong service on Nov. 2 at 4 p.m., which includes versions of Scripture, hymns and prayers in song.
Born in Perth, Scotland, and educated in Edinburgh, Bruce has resided in Switzerland since 1974, performing in the cathedrals of Geneva and Berne, Switzerland, as well as in Spain and Italy.
This will be his first American tour, with recitals in Saratoga and San Francisco, and then in Massachusetts and Connecticut.
The concert is free and open to the public, although a donation will be accepted. For more information, call 408.354.2195.
Tickets will be needed, however, for the upcoming performance by Calico Winds, sponsored by the Los GatosSaratoga Community Concert Association. On Nov. 9, Los Gatos High School will house the offbeat Los Angelesbased wind quintet, which uses more than 11 different instruments to create its textured, energetic sound. Riding Harleys and playing everything from classics to classic rock, this all-female group is set on bending stereotypes of stuffy wind-instrument performers.
Doors open at the LGHS auditorium at 2 p.m., with the concert beginning at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the door, costing $20 for adults and $10 for students. Tickets for the final two concerts of the series are still available. Call Ray Strong at 408.377.1106 or Lea Frey at 408.356.5698 for more information, or visit http://www.lgcca.org.
