What started out to be a pretty good week for the Los Gatos girls tennis team sure didn't end up that way.
Gatos opened the week by rolling past 5-2 in a Santa Clara Valley Athletic League De Anza Division match. But just two days later the Wildcats were the victims of a 7-0 defeat at the hands of Monta Vista.
Still, Los Gatos doesn't have anything to be ashamed of—the Matadors are doing that to just about everyone in the De Anza Division this year ... and everywhere else for that matter!
Monta Vista is 16-0 for the year and 10-0 in the division. The Matadors are certainly rolling to another league championship, and they could very well be headed to another Central Coast Section crown.
Los Gatos, meanwhile, posted the impressive win over Lynbrook to open the week. Sofia Larsson posted an easy 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles and Courtney Hull cruised 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2. Chelsea Green was a 6-4, 6-1 winner at No. 3 singles for the Cats.
Los Gatos lost every match in straight sets a couple of days later against Monta Vista. The Cats slipped to 7-4 in the division and to 8-6 for the year.
Golfers win league crown
Monika Walker and Allison Williams turned in solid rounds last week to lead the Los Gatos girls golf team to wins over Hillsdale and Menlo-Atherton—wins that helped the Wildcats clinch the Peninsula League championship.
Walker fired a three-over par 39 to lead the Wildcats to a 168-237 win over Hillsdale at La Rinconada. The Cats pushed their league record to 13-1 with a 167-195 win over M-A a day later on the same course when Williams carded a four-over 40.
Cats unbeaten in volleyball
The Los Gatos girls volleyball team ran its record to 9-0 in the De Anza Division last week with two wins in league play.
Junior outside hitter Rebecca Mason led the Cats to a 25-15, 25-19, 25-15 win over Los Altos and Gatos also handled Palo Alto 25-9, 25-9, 25-7.
Los Gatos is now 27-4 for the year.
Hockey team wins
Sarah Yuki had a goal and an assist and Alison Reyes chipped in with two assists to lead the Los Gatos field hockey team to a 2-0 win over Leigh last week. Bailey Richardson also scored for the Cats in the win.
Los Gatos is now 7-1-1 in the Mt. Hamilton Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League and 12-1-1 for the year.
