Gatos rolls to big hockey wins

They looked more like football scores than field hockey scores when the Los Gatos girls played a pair games last week in the Mt. Hamilton Division of the Blossom Valley Athletic League.

The Wildcats pounded Los Altos 6-0 to open the week, then they came back with a lopsided 7-0 win over Lynbrook.

Senior forward Jodi Christiansen knocked in three goals and Sarah Yuki, another senior forward, had two goals and an assist to lead the Cats to the win over the Eagles. Rachel Stege chipped in with a goal and an assist and Marlana Shile and Carrie Sporck added assists.

Alison Reyes had two goals and two assists and Christiansen scored a couple of goals in the 7-0 win over the Vikings. Bailey Richardson had two assists Yuki, Emily Augustine and Carolyn Saunders each scored goals. Stege, Courtney Furia, Alex Oyer, Claire Van Zuiden and Robin Rector also had assists. Nicole Wasserman and Emma Gudeman are goalkeepers for the Cats.

Los Gatos is now 14-1-1 for the year and 9-1-1 in league play.

Boys water polo

The Los Gatos boys water polo won in league play last week, then won one of three games at the Monta Vista Tournament over the weekend.

The Cats pulled out a thrilling 10-9 win over Gunn in De Anza Division play last week, then went on to compete in the tourney at Monta Vista.

The Cats opened the tournament with a 13-10 win over Santa Cruz. Scott Silva and Jeff Mohr fired in four goals apiece to lead the Wildcats. Austin Nichols and Robert Shamshoian added two goals each and Brian Rose scored one. Tyler Scales handled the chores in the goal.

Girls water polo

Breezy Conner flipped in three goals to lead the Los Gatos girls water polo team to an 11-4 win over Homestead last week in the De Anza Division of the SCVAL. The win helped the Cats push their league record to 9-2.

Girls volleyball

Senior outside hitter Hilary Lewis pounded down nine kills to lead the Los Gatos girls volleyball team to a 25-12, 25-10, 25-11 victory over Mountain View last week. The win helped the Wildcats improve to 28-4 for the year and to 10-0 in the De Anza Division of the SCVAL.

Girls tennis

Sofia Larsson won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles and Courtney Hull won 7-5, 5-7, 10-5 at No. 2, but the Los Gatos girls tennis team lost a 5-2 decision to Palo Alto last week. The Wildcats slipped to 8-7 for the year and to 7-5 in the De Anza Division of the SCVAL.
