Paw de Chat, the new Los Gatos High School dance team, recently competed in the L.A. Danceforce Competition and Showcase, receiving a silver medal for its performance. The dancers were judged on Nov. 22 for components including technique, performance and choreography. The hip-hop routine—called Galaxy Bounce—was choreographed by dance captain Kristen Ryder and performed by team members Hannah Lawrence, Samantha Chang, Ryder and Jamie Rees. The award qualifies the team for the L.A. Danceforce Nationals in Las Vegas this summer.
"Our dancers did an amazing job," said Kathleen Wehr, faculty adviser. "Most competing teams have been together for years, have trained with the same studio and had a professional choreographer. Our dancers have been together for four months, trained with different studios, and we used a student choreographer. Our future is extremely exciting."
Paw de Chat performs throughout the year at athletic, school and community events as well as dance competitions. In January, they will be hosting a winter dance camp for elementary school students in second through fifth grades.
