Author to teach
workshop on
writing for kids

Local children looking to learn about writing techniques should head to the Los Gatos Neighborhood Center on Jan. 31 as author and UC­Santa Cruz instructor Martha Alderson hosts a special seminar at 11 a.m.

The workshop is for children ages 8 to 13 and is sponsored by Friends of the Los Gatos Library. Children will learn how to develop plot and character in order to create a well-crafted story. Writing materials, drinks and cookies will be provided.

The cost is $15 per child, payable to Friends of the Los Gatos Public Library. The center is located at 208 E. Main St. in Los Gatos. For more information, call 408.399.5700.

Program offers
exclusive tours
to local wineries

South Bay Wine Tours will be hosting its annual Passport Tour through the Santa Cruz Mountains on Jan. 17. More than 20 wineries will participate, opening their doors to the public for this exclusive occasion. Guests will be able to tour the facilities, meet winemakers, sample wines, and learn about what makes the Santa Cruz Mountain area special.

Lunch is included, as well as a passport to be stamped by each winery. At the end of the day, filled passports can be turned in for a prize. Tours will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. The cost is $95 per person. For more information call 408.867.9661.

Senior program
gets a new name
and adds events

The Los Gatos­Saratoga Community Education and Recreation Department has renamed its Senior Program to The 55+ Program. The revamped program will sponsor classes, events and trips geared for individuals over the age of 55.

In conjunction with the Live Oak Senior Nutrition and Service Center, The 55+ Program will also host a table-game night every Wednesday at the Los Gatos Neighborhood Center and regularly feature special lectures and entertainment. For more information, call 408.354.2360.
