Robert Trevey

Robert Aloyius Trevey, a resident of Los Gatos for 35 years, died at his home in Los Gatos on Dec. 17 after a yearlong battle with cancer.

Born in San Jose on May 9, 1924, Trevey grew up in Willow Glen. He was active in boating and the South Bay Yacht Club. As an adult, Trevey built his own sailboat and sailed frequently with his family. He also took up scuba diving and free diving for abalone, and was a charter member of the Flipper Dipper Diving group in San Jose.

Trevey served in World War II with the U.S. Army, where he trained in electronics and radio, which shaped his future work. Ten days after the war, he married Dorothy Elliot. The couple had four children during their 21-year marriage.

Trevey later went to work for PG&E while completing his bachelor's degree at San José State University. He then began working at IBM, where he worked for 25 years in failure analysis.

After the end of his first marriage, Trevey met Gratia Rohrer in 1967. The two were wed a year later, and were together until Trevey passed away.

Upon retiring at the age of 60, Trevey took up hang-gliding, satisfying a lifelong desire to fly. He was also fond of traveling and outdoor sports, and was known for his adventurous spirit and zest for life.

He is survived by his wife, Gratia Trevey of Los Gatos, children Margo Buckley of San Jose, Robert G. Trevey of Santa Clara, Nora Alvord of Tahoe City, Ross Rohrer of Santa Cruz, Carol Trevey of San Rafael and Dan Rohrer of Los Gatos, sister Peggy Poindexter of Santa Cruz, nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be held on Jan. 17 at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Los Gatos at 4 p.m. The Fellowship is located at 15980 Blossom Hill Road. Donations in his honor may be made to Habitat for Humanity International, P.O. Box 6439, Americus, Ga., 31709-9952.
