Calvin Hawkes and Nick Kalpin headed up a list of 10 Fisher wrestlers to place at the Santa Clara County Wrestling championships held last month. The 10 placers helped the Trojans finish second to South Valley of Gilroy in the rugged tourney.
Geoff Doss, Sean Goodison and Gurbaksh Sohol each finished second in the tourney with Jeff Pepper and Josh Curtis third, and Jack Chang, Robbie Nakata and Brett Van Zuiden fourth.
Just two days before the county meet, Fisher had won the Western Sectional championship. Doss, Kalpin, Goodison and Hawkes were individual champions for the Trojans.
"This is the best team I've ever coached in any sport," said Fisher head coach Jim Doss. "The entire 48-man squad sacrificed and dedicated themselves to levels that I have never seen. This will be a huge boost to the already powerful Los Gatos High School team next year."
Included on that 48-"man" list is junior varsity league champion Laura Harmon, the school's first ever female JV league champ.
Kalpin put together an impressive season for Fisher. The eighth grader lost his first match of the year, then pinned 14 straight opponents.
