'Touch my heART' on a day for lovers

Valentine's Day is a time for lovers. And that will certainly be the theme at a special Feb. 14 event at the Art Museum of Los Gatos.

Lovers of art and lovers of town history will come together on Saturday from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at the historic building at the corner of Tait Avenue and Main Street for the annual Touch my heART auction and raffle, a fundraiser for The Museums of Los Gatos.

Unique and original works of art have been donated for the event, and all proceeds will benefit the town's museums. The pieces are on display Wednesday through Saturday, noon to 4 p.m.

"The paintings, prints and sculptures were juried by George Rivera, curator of the de Saisset Museum [at Santa Clara University], so that those chosen are excellent in quality," said Steve Wise of the Art Museum. "Artists from all over the area donated art for this cause."

Sandy Decker, a member of the Los Gatos Town Council and former mayor, serves as the honorary chairwoman of the Touch my heART event. Eileen Broadwater and Maria Fischer are the event co-chairwomen this year.

Touch my heART was a rousing success in 2003 when the event raised more than $13,000 for the Los Gatos museums.

"This covered our $4,000 projected shortfall for this past fiscal year, the similar shortfall from the previous year, and puts something back in savings to offset the large amount (more than $25,000) we spent on the art gallery remodel," museum officials wrote in The Museums of Los Gatos Newsletter for the winter 200304.

Maralyn Miller and Rita Wilson were the co-chairwomen of last year's event. The support of Decker and another former mayor, Jan Hutchins, helped make the auction the great success that it was.

The Feb. 14 affair, which will be catered by Pat Smith Extravaganza with wines donated by Barefoot, promises to be a special day for lovers—of art, of good food and drink, and of a very special town's unique history.

General admission tickets for the Touch my heART event are priced at $25 ($20 for museum members). Tickets are available in advance at the Art Museum of Los Gatos, 4 Tait Ave., or at the Los Gatos Chamber of Commerce, 349 N. Santa Cruz Ave. Raffle tickets sell for $5 each or five for $20.
