Camera shop patron was out of line

This letter is directed to the woman who had a tantrum at Wolf Camera in Los Gatos on Jan. 31. I understand your being upset that your picture CDs were not included as requested. I don't understand the tantrum that followed.

Yes, you were inconvenienced because you had to wait for the CDs to be made ready. But the tirade of behavior exhibited in public was unacceptable. Worse, you set a bad example for your child. Maybe next time you can take a deep breath, acknowledge "stuff happens," and work to find a quick solution to your being inconvenienced.

Everyone experiences frustration when things do not go their way. Most people find a more gracious way to handle it. The golden rule asks that we treat others how we want to be treated. I don't think you would have liked being on the receiving end of the spectacle you created. Not bloody likely.

Sobrato, hospital plans are in the wrong places

Recently we read that the Sobrato project is back before the town to increase the amount of residential development it wants to put in the industrial area in north Los Gatos. Then this week we read that Los Gatos Community Hospital wants to increase its hospital facilities in the residential area of north Los Gatos.

Since neither of these proposals seems like particularly good urban planning, perhaps the town planners should have a three-way conversation on these proposals to consider moving the hospital and its traffic out of the residential area, and moving the residential part of the Sobrato plan out of the industrial area.

Maybe there might even be room left over in the residential area for a little neighborhood park or maybe a skateboard park next to the emergency room.

Teachers offer a thank-you to the community

In 1998 you voted to pass a "Measure B" bond giving our high school district $79 million for badly needed improvements to our campuses. This positive vote is a concrete message that this community is committed to education. It has been quite a few years since this tax increase passed, and there have been significant changes on our campuses because of it.

As faculty members at Los Gatos High School, we would like to express our sincere appreciation for passing this tax bill and make you aware of the improvements.

Those attending football games will have already noticed the new bathroom and snack-shack facilities. Those were among the first items to be improved. Shortly following was the renovation of the bathrooms for students and staff use in the main building.

There is a beautifully remodeled library now in use, and the former science classrooms are also remodeled and being used by the social studies department.

The greatest difference is in the new buildings. The science and home economics classroom environment boasts college-level technology and provides the students with comfortable, clean, well-lighted classrooms. In addition, the new three-story general classroom building now houses mathematics, world-language and a few special-education classes.

For more than 40 years, some teachers have taught in dilapidated "portables" that had roofs that leaked and ceilings that crumbled. These portables have been replaced with classrooms that are clean, bright and climate-controlled, with whiteboards and storage units in abundance. The run-down girls locker room has now been demolished, and a new one is being built, which includes a much-needed multipurpose conference room above it.

The remodeling continues in the business wing, art wing and music building. This summer the main building will begin its journey to remodeling. The main-building classrooms and offices are no longer comfortable or attractive to teach or work in. They lack reliable heat and air conditioning, and the walls and carpets are worn and dingy. That, too, will change, and we are looking forward to this renovation. The industrial-technology building will be renovated beginning this summer and continuing the following summer. The entire campus will be wheelchair-accessible as well.

At a time when this community seems to be forever tapped with requests for funds, and at a time when this community has allowed these funds to be tapped, we would be remiss if we, the faculty at Los Gatos High School, did not share our enthusiasm with you and offer our heartfelt gratitude for allowing this renovation to take place.
