Jan Eric Nordmo wasn't surprised to see his Los Gatos girls soccer team shut down Saratoga in the final game of the regular season in the De Anza Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League.

After all, the Wildcats had Jessica Sansevere in the goal, and she'd had a pretty good league season to that point.

So when Sansevere posted three saves to help the Wildcats nail a scoreless tie against the Falcons and clinch a berth in the Central Coast Section Division I playoffs, no one was surprised—especially Nordmo ... because he knew she's already been named the Most Valuable Goalkeeper in the De Anza Division for the 200394 season.

Sansevere was one of seven Wildcats to win special honors on the all-league squad. Sansevere was picked the top goalkeeper and Katie Bonadies was picked as the division's Sophomore of the Year.

Ashley Dix (six goals, four assists), Morgan Branon (three goals) and Ashley Benson (two goals) were named to the all-league first team for the Cats with Monica Rude (five goals, four assists) and Melissa Shawhan (three goals, five assists) nailing all-league second team honors.

Los Gatos wrapped up the league season with the 0-0 tie against the Falcons. The tie left the Cats 6-2-4 in league play and 10-4-4 for the year—good for a CCS berth.

Gatos will open the playoffs at home on Feb. 18 when the Cats host San Benito (10-5-5) at 3 p.m. The winner will face No. 2 seed Aptos (13-3-1) on Feb. 21 in Salinas, 2 p.m.

Nordmo praised the work of Sansevere in the goal against the Falcons, and he also singled out Benson for her performance working against Saratoga scoring sensation Annie McAllister, the division's Most Valuable Offensive Player.

"[She] shuts down Annie McAllister in the midfield and created her own opportunities," said Nordmo.

The coach also praised the work of Corynn Carino at right back and Branon at center back.

Dix and Sofie Lynn led the Cats on the offensive end of the field.

The same day the varsity teams were battling to a draw, the Los Gatos and Saratoga girls junior varsity teams fought to a 1-1 deadlock. The young Wildcats clinched the De Anza Division championship, though, with a undefeated league record.
