Golf tourney is a benefit for the los gatos little league

The Los Gatos Little League will hold its fourth annual golf tournament on April 26 at the La Rinconada Country Club. The tourney welcomes league alumni, friends of the league and local business people.

The cost is $195 per player, and includes golf, a barbecue lunch catered by C.B. Hannegan's, a buffet dinner, on-course beverages, range balls, logo golf shirts and hats, a $12 pro shop credit and a sleeve of golf balls. The registration deadline is March 31, but those who register by March 15 will receive 10 raffle tickets.

Special events include longest drive and closest-to-the-pin competitions, a margarita hole, live and silent auctions, a raffle, a Los Gatos Brewing Company hole, and an awards ceremony. A hole-in-one wins a new Buick Rainier.

Strikkers tryouts

Homes for Giants

The San Jose Giants are looking for host families to take in players for the 2004 summer season. Players will need accommodations for the California League season that runs April 1 through Sept. 7.

"We're looking for a family atmosphere," said Linda Pereira of the Giants' front office. "And we like the host families to become part of our family as well."

The Giants provide host families with a season pass and parking pass for games played at San Jose Municipal Stadium, and the club hosts picnics at the stadium during the year for players and their host families.

Baseball camp

Blossom Valley Pony Baseball will host a baseball camp for players ages 6­14 on April 10, 9 a.m.­4 p.m., at Calero Elementary School in San Jose, led by instructors from America's Baseball Camps.

The cost for the hitting and defense camp, from 9 a.m.­1 p.m., is $65 and the cost for the pitching camp, from 1:30­4 p.m., is $50.

Instructors will include Ben Boulware, a former Los Gatos High School star who went on to play in the Chicago White Sox organization, and Ron Hall, a former coach at the University of Utah.
