Bishop enters a no contest plea; Danser trial is ready to begin
By Nisha Ramachandran
A former Los Gatos police detective accused of fixing tickets for family and friends with the help of a Santa Clara County judge entered a plea of no contest last week.

Randy Bishop was charged March 15 with one felony count and five misdemeanors for obstructing justice. He could face a maximum sentence of three years in prison, a $10,000 fine and possible restitution of monies lost to the county from dismissed tickets.

Bishop, allegedly aided by Superior Court Judge William Danser, tried to dismiss tickets for local sports stars, including Sharks goalie Evgeni Nabokov and Earthquakes soccer forward Dwayne DeRosario.

Danser's trial is expected to begin March 29. In addition to charges of ticket-fixing, Danser is also accused of using his court to hand out more lenient sentences in two drunken-driving cases to individuals who had connections to the judge.

It is unknown if Bishop plans to testify at Danser's trial. Santa Clara County Assistant District Attorney Karyn Sinunu said that the prosecution had not made any deals with Bishop in exchange for his testimony during the Danser case.

"There was no bargain," she said. "[Bishop] pled as he had been charged."
