It took everyone a half an hour or more to finish the Super Sprint Triathlon held March 13 at the Almaden Valley Athletic Club—everyone, that is, except for Soren Soe.

Soe, competing in the men's 4044 age group, finished the 400-yard swim, 5-mile bike ride and 2-mile run in 29:09 to top the field in the 17th annual race around AVAC.

The triathlon, co-sponsored by AVAC and Kain Performance Multi-Sport, featured 14 divisions for competitors of all ages, including 11 age divisions, a Clydesdale relay for competitors more than 200 pounds and the open-elite division for men and women.

Joe Sanders of San Jose came through with a win in the highly-competitive division, finishing in 31:56 in the event where competitors went from a 200-yard swim to a 2.5-mile bike ride to a 1-mile run, back to a 2.5-mile bike ride, 200-yard swim and 1-mile run.

Brian Lavelle of Cupertino was second in the division in 32:19 with Erin McCarty third in 32:40.

Soe, an Almaden resident, won the regular Super Sprint with his time that bettered 30 seconds. Tim Lavelle was second in 30:29 with Craig Pepys of San Jose third in 32:31. Soe easily took the men's 4044 age group, Lavelle was an easy winner in the men's 5559 class and Pepys took the men's 3034 division.

Sarah Martin was the top women's finisher in 35:31, also good for a win in the women's 2529 age group.

Bolko Stolberg was the relay winner in 31:36 and youth titles went to Stephanie Scannell (10 and under—100-yard swim, 1-mile run) and Jackie Pauley (1114—100-yard swim, 2.5-mile bike ride, 1-mile run).

Rounding out the list of female division winners were: 1519—Shannon Forster (39:05); 2024—Laura Landgreen, (38:19); 3034—Dana Booth (40:14); 3539—Christy Cowley (37:21); 4044—Melanie Richardson (37:40); 4549—Carol Wilson (36:30); 5559—Wendy Kim (46:14); Athena—Marna Bennett (51:22).
