read event
to begin

The Los Gatos Public Library invites residents to participate in the third annual town-wide read. The program will run from April 5 to May 14. Participants will be reading The Beekeeper's Apprentice by mystery writer Laurie King.

Copies of the book will be on loan at the following locations: Los Gatos Coffee Roasting Company, 101 W. Main St.; Peet's Coffee, 798 Blossom Hill Road; Starbucks Coffee, 624 Blossom Hill Road; and the library, 110 E. Main St.

Friends of the Library board member Martha Alderson will interview King on May 14, at 7 p.m. in council chambers. King will sign books before and after the program. Council chambers are located at 110 E. Main St. Admission is free.

Keep town
beautiful
this April

The annual "Keep Los Gatos Beautiful Month" runs through April. Activities planned throughout the month include:

* Park and Trail Cleanup: Contact the Los Gatos Department of Parks and Public Works at 408.399.5776.

* Farmers Market: Visit exhibits on April 4, 18 and 25 held by the Santa Clara County home composting group, West Valley Clean Water Program and Los Gatos Parks Commission.

* School Beautification Events: Help the students at Fisher Middle School or Los Gatos High School clean up and beautify their school on April 24, 9 a.m. to noon.

* Earth Day: Earth Day is April 22.

* Arbor Day: Enjoy an Arbor Day celebration at noon on April 30, with refreshments and a tree-planting ceremony at Oak Meadow Park.
