It looked as though the Royals had a victory locked up in the first week of the season in the Los Gatos Little League major division.

The Cubs and Tigers opened the season with back-to-back wins. The Cubs topped the Diamondbacks 4-2 and whipped the Astros 14-4, and the Tigers took the Orioles 6-2 and beat the Royals 8-2.
Mike Mitchell was 3 for 3, and his fourth-inning single knocked in a couple of runs. Mitchell and John Williams each singled in the first inning and raced home on a double by Tom Patton.
Matt Calhoun, Greg Peters and Preston Rind combined to pitch the win for the Tigers.
Bryan Houp and Corey Lanagan each singled in the third for the Orioles and scored on a double by Hayden Hibbard.

Ashan Fernando doubled and tripled and Jacob Garber and Steven Carlquist each had two hits for the Astros.
Yun flipped five innings of no-hit baseball to lead the Cubs to a tight 4-2 win over the Diamondbacks. Yun ended up going the distance in the game.
The Diamondbacks broke up the no-hitter in the sixth when Jake Raynaud and Robbie Dunne each singled, then scored on a double by Patrick Schultz.
The Diamondbacks came back to win in a donnybrook against the Giants, taking the game 12-11 in eight innings.

Schultz scored a run in the last of the eighth to give the Diamondbacks the 12-11 win. He was also the winning pitcher with two innings of relief work. Raynaud had tossed the first six frames in the win.

Honda threw three more innings and cracked two more hits for the Yankees in a 6-1 win over the Orioles. Hodgman also threw three innings in the game.
