Ponies, cotton candy and a wide variety of games—it's a child's dream come true.
Actually, those are just a few things visitors can expect to see at the Los Gatos Parent Nursery School's 16th annual Children's Fantasy Faire, taking place on May 1 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the front lawn of Los Gatos High School, 20 High School Court.
"The kids love it," says Heidi Bowman, a teacher at the school. "There aren't many events that are geared for children in the preschool and elementary age range."
The fair will feature several returning entertainers, including Magician Gerald Joseph, Dance Attack, Studio Kicks and the Stanford Band. There will also be special performances by some very talented feathered friends who are part of Happy Birds.
And what's a fair without food and games? Traditional hamburgers, hot dogs and pizza are some items on the menu. Children—and parents— can take part in a variety of games, including a treasure hunt, a boat race, bowling, golf and basketball.
"Last year, we had a turnout of about 5,000 people through the course of the day," says Erika Taxin. "That's really impressive, considering it rained that day."
There is more to the event than fun and games, according to Taxin. The money raised will go toward renovating the facility, which is more than 40 years old. Last year the event brought in about $30,000, which was used to remodel some of the restrooms. This year Taxin says the goal is to raise enough money to renovate the kitchen and upgrade some of the playground equipment.
