It's been another successful season for the Los Gatos Community Concert Association, but with a new year approaching, residents must bid the 200304 concert series adieu and make way for a new group of performers.
The association, formerly the Los GatosSaratoga Community Concert Association, will host its fourth and final show of the season on May 9 at 2 p.m. at the Los Gatos High School auditorium.
The show features principals from Opera San José who will be performing a variety of arias and ensembles from Georges Bizet's The Pearl Fisher and Johann Strauss's Die Fledermaus. More than 300 people are expected for the concert, based on attendance at previous events, according to Lea Frey, one of the association's vice presidents, who helped performers with their French and German diction.
Earlier concerts included performances by the San Jose Symphony Brass Quintet Plus One, woodwind chamber music by Calico Winds and a mix of folk, classical and bluegrass music by guitarist Richard Smith and his wife, cellist Julie Adams.
"We try to have a varied program for our members," says Frey.
However, she says, the association aims at having at least two concerts that are on the classical side.
"Our mission is not only to bring culture to the community at a reasonable price, but also to keep classical music alive," Frey says.
Shows for the next concert season have already been lined up. Romanian native pianist Gabriela Imreh will kick off the new series on Oct. 24. Other performers throughout the season include Sherry Overholt and Lee Velta, the Slavyanka Russian Male Chorus and the Wood's Tea Company.
Tickets for the May 9 show will be available at the door and are priced at $20 for adults and $15 for students. For more information, visit the association's website at www.lgcca.org.
