Get out those cowboy boots and chaps

Leigh High School's first annual "Longhorn Round-Up" will take place May 7 at Nordahl Hall, 580 W. Parr Ave., Los Gatos. The event will include a Western-style buffet dinner, no-host bar, silent/live auction and dancing to the tunes of Rippin'. Doors open for the auction at 5:30 p.m., dinner is at 7 p.m. and the band starts at 8 p.m.

Proceeds from the event will go toward the cost of an athletic trainer, new equipment and uniforms. With budget cuts at the state and district levels, the school's athletic program is in great need of support, said parent Kathy Schlief.

Tickets for the dinner are $30, but auction admission is free. The event is open to the public. For tickets or more information, call Schlief at 408.997.0735 or email kats418@aol.com.

Fisher Middle School in the Los Gatos Union School District; Barry Siebenthall, a history teacher and department chairman at Fisher; and Cindy Loper, a special education teacher at Alta Vista Elementary School in the Union School District. They were nominated by their co-workers for the awards.
