Hayes wins two diving medals at Jr. Olympic region meet

Molly Hayes, an eighth-grader at Fisher Middle School, won a pair of medals at the USA Diving Junior Olympic Winter Region 10 Championships in Federal Way, Wash.

Hayes, competing for the Santa Clara Divers in the 13 and under age division, placed third in the three-meter springboard event and fifth in the one-meter contest in the regional held April 34.

Both efforts qualified her for berths in the JO Winter West Nationals, as the top six in each event advanced to San Antonio, Texas, on April 2324 to take on the qualifiers from four other regions. Meanwhile, 30 other divers from five other regionals competed in the East nationals at Moss Farms, Ga.

Hayes was one of 12 medalists in the three-meter contest in San Antonio, placing 11th.
