King in Los Gatos to discuss 'The Beekeeper's Apprentice'
By Dick Sparrer
Laurie King is becoming something of a household name in Los Gatos—at least among those participating in the third annual Town-Wide Read sponsored by the Friends of the Library.

King is the author of The Beekeeper's Apprentice, the book selected by the Friends for the read program this spring. And she will be in town on May 14, for a special program at the Los Gatos Town Council Chambers, 110 E. Main St.

Martha Alderson will interview King at the Friday event. The evening will begin with refreshments at 7 p.m., followed by the free program at 7:30 p.m. King's books will be on sale at the event and she will be available for signings.

The Beekeeper's Apprentice features the experiences of 15-year-old Mary Russell, who meets Sherlock Holmes in the mystery novel set in 1915. The book was the first of six novels in the series, including her latest release, The Game.

The dedication in King's new book serves as a tribute to dedicated librarians. She writes, "For the librarians everywhere, who spend their lives in battle against the forces of darkness."

King earned her bachelor's degree in religious studies at UCSanta Cruz.
