Hirata retires
after 35 years
at Van Meter

Jane Hirata is retiring this June after teaching second grade at Louise Van Meter Elementary School in Los Gatos for the past 35 years. She will be honored May 25 at 2:30 p.m. with an after-school celebration in the school's multipurpose room, 16445 Los Gatos Blvd. Former and current students, colleagues, parents and community members are invited to attend. juniors win USC
jazz competition

Douglas Mosher and Richard Sears, both juniors at Los Gatos High School, won the first annual high school jazz invitational's first-place award on April 17 at USC. Douglas, who plays tenor saxophone, and Richard, on the piano, played "Infant Eyes" by Wayne Shorter and "The Greeting" by McCoy Tyner. That evening, they played at the USC Thornton jazz orchestra concert with singer Patti Austin. Both boys were also recipients of scholarships to USC.

LG performers
host Broadway
concert

The 22nd annual pops concert at Los Gatos High School's Prentiss Brown Auditorium will highlight many of Broadway's greatest hits of the past and present. More than 70 performers from the choir, dance ensemble and Jazz Purr group will perform May 27 and 28, at 8 p.m. each night. The event is open to the public and is appropriate for all ages.
