Smuin Ballet looks back on 10 years of performance
By Estelle Hayes
Few choreographers have tried harder than Michael Smuin to capture the spirit of pop culture. Now a 10-year retrospective of his works reveals a tour de force of American culture of the late 20th century.

The Smuin Ballet 10th Anniversary Retrospective combines both live dance and film clips June 26 at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, to showcase the body of Smuin's work.

Following a career that already included directing the San Francisco Ballet, directing and dancing with American Ballet Theatre and countless other special projects for Broadway, television and film, Smuin formed his own company of dancers that he frequently refers to as his "guerilla ballet," for their aggressive and athletic style.

The Smuin Ballet has since performed more than 40 original ballets, many of which will be highlighted in the program.

Tickets to Smuin Ballet's June 26 10th Anniversary Retrospective at the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts are $3650. Call 415.495.2234 or go to www.smuinballet.org for more information.
