Little League teams in tourney to decide division championship
By Kevin Sparrer
The regular season may be over, but that doesn't mean that they're not still playing baseball in the Los Gatos Little League.

The teams of the major division wrapped up the regular season on May 22, just in time to begin play in a round robin tournament that will run through June 9. The top four teams in the tourney will advance to a double elimination round June 12 that will decide the league championship.

Though the season has ended, it didn't end without its big moments.

The Astros defeated the Cardinals 10-9 with Jack Fordyce going 3 for 3 with three doubles and Sam Defever ripping up three hits and scoring twice.

The Cards' Dylan Lovit had a big day, going 4 for 5 with three doubles and two runs scored. Pat Sgartlattla also came up big with two hits for his squad.

The Royals, with pitchers Peter Danna and Kyre Vega on the mound, emerged victorious 4-1 over the Tigers. All four runs were scored in the third with Alex Moser, Danna, Vega and Raja Stanley crossing the plate.

Tigers pitcher Matt Calhoun tried to help his cause with two hits, but it wasn't enough to defeat the Royals.

The Reds took one from the Giants 10-5 with Nathan Fumia getting two hits and Alex Hamacher going 3 for 3 and scoring twice. The Giants Zack Herchberger had two hits for his club.

Gavin Honda went 4 for 4 and scored two runs to lead the Yankees to an 11-3 victory over the Royals.

All three runs for the Royals were scored on a two-out rally in the fourth with Alex Moser, Henry Kuckins and Chris Diamond coming home.

The Cubs downed the Giants 9-4. Marshall Finch led off the game with a triple, but it wasn't enough for the Giants. Finn Robertson of the Cubbies also tripled in the fifth.

The Tigers took one from the Red Sox 6-4. John Williams of the Tigers went 3 for 3 with a home run and scored twice. Keith Brassil led off the top of the first with a triple for the Sox.

The A's took the Orioles 12-6. Andrew Berg of the A's picked up the win with 10 strikeouts and went 3 for 3 with three runs scored. Orioles' Hayden Hibbard went 3 for 3, scoring twice, and Cory Lanagan cracked two hits and threw three shut-out innings.

The Diamondbacks defeated the Astros 6-5 with Robbie Dunne striking out five. Adam Gouldsberry came up with a big diving catch in the sixth with the bases loaded that started a double-play, catching the runner tagging from third. Michael Murano smacked two hits for the Astros.

The Cards lost one to the Reds 12-1. Alex Hamacher threw three shutout innings for the Reds, Jason Shepardson went 3 for 3 and Kevin Brogan knocked in five runs. Joey Visuzzi also knocked in three runs for the Reds.

The Astros dropped one to the Cubs 9-5. Fordyce, Michael Murano and Will Hawker all singled in the third with Sam Defever and Aaron Aguire blasting doubles in the same inning where all their runs were scored for the Astros.

Harry Jordan also came up with two hits for the Astros.

Devon Coen had two hits and Jake Cathey went 3 for 3 for the Cubs.

The Cubs edged the Orioles 12-11. The game was tied after six innings, but the O's picked up a run when Shane Track came home in the seventh after a lead-off walk.

But Devon Coen doubled in the bottom of the seventh, Josh Yun singled him home and, with one out, Michael Spork singled home Yun with the winning run.

The Cards topped the Giants 7-5. Tyler Litle went 4 for 4 and scored three runs for the Cards.

The Tigers took one from the Yanks 14-1 with Michael Mitchell going 3 for 3 and Sutton Roley ripping three hits and scoring twice. John Impet helped out with three hits. John Williams blasted his fourth home run of the season, making him the season home run champ.

The Reds defeated the D'backs 7-4 with Nathan Fumia leading off the game with his first home run of the season. Jason Shepardson threw five innings and registered 13 strikeouts. Patrick Shultz had two hits for the Diamondbacks and scored twice.

The Giants topped the A's 11-8 in the last game of the regular season on May 23. Zack Herschberger threw four innings with Gabe Buller finishing the game. Reed Gunsalus went 3 for 4, scoring twice for the Giants.

Ben Rosenberg crashed his first home run of the season for the A's in the last of the sixth.
