Beginning next week, local residents will get their first—and maybe only—opportunity to see Los Gatos Mayor Steve Glickman wearing tights.

No, Glickman hasn't adopted a strange new wardrobe. Rather, he is preparing for his role as King Mark in the Festival Theater Ensemble's production of Legends of Arthur and Merlin, part of the annual Los Gatos Shakespeare Festival that begins July 16.

Festival Theater Ensemble producer Jennifer Selden calls this cultural event "destination theater." She says the scheduling of all three of this year's plays is arranged so that out-of-towners can come to Los Gatos for the weekend, stay in one of its charming hotels or inns and see all three plays between Friday and Sunday. Therefore, the performances rotate—between July 16 and Aug. 1, each of the three plays is given a Friday, Saturday and Sunday performance to accommodate most people's schedules.

This year's plays are Much Ado About Nothing , Twelfth Night and Legends of Arthur and Merlin , with Mayor Glickman joining the cast. Tickets are $18 general, $12 child/senior, and festival passes and group discounts are available. For information, visit www.festivaltheatreensemble.org or call 408.996.0635.
