Trailing by a run, all the pressure on your shoulders, two outs and the game on the line—how is an 8-year-old baseball player going to respond?

Keegan Vega reacted with an RBI-single to tie the game for the Los Gatos National Little League 8-year-old all-star team in the championship game of the District 12 tournament.

After being held scoreless for the first three innings against Cambrian, Los Gatos chipped away with a run in the fourth when Michael Bencomo scored on an RBI from Cory Olivet.

In the fifth, Los Gatos put up another run when Peter Goodlin singled to drive in Vega and bring the score to 4-2.

On a full count, Matt Ross took a pitch in the leg, giving Gatos a runner on first. Olivet came in to pinch run and, on a two-strike pitch, Greg Sprintz hammered a triple to score Olivet from first. Sprintz scored on an overthrow to tie the game 4-4.

In the top of the seventh, Cambrian scored a run, but Los Gatos would not give up. Los Gatos scored a run on the clutch two-out RBI single by Vega that scored Olivet.

Cambrian scored three unearned runs in the top of the eighth, though, and then shut down Los Gatos in order to end the run 8-5.

Vega also pitched three innings for Los Gatos, allowing no runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth to keep the locals in the game.

In the semifinal game, Los Gatos National faced Saratoga, who had been undefeated in the north pool of the tournament. Los Gatos pulled out a 9-8 win, but it was not without its drama.

Falling behind 4-0 after two innings, Los Gatos fought back to score two runs in the bottom of the second thanks to the hitting of Logan Chapman, Preston Roley and Goodlin.

Los Gatos allowed another run in the top of the third, but got two back in the bottom half on hits by Michael Aguiar and Grady Duggan.

The Saratoga all-stars put up another run in the fourth, hoping they could finally quiet the Los Gatos squad but had no such luck. Los Gatos scored three runs with two outs to take over the lead 7-6. Goodlin led off the inning with a single, but was caught in a double play on a caught line drive. Matt Ross, Greg Sprintz and Ethan Morris all drew walks to load the bases and Anthony Chadwick belted a single up the middle to bring in two runs. Michael Bencomo followed Morris with a single to right to score the third run of the inning.

Saratoga was now trailing but would not give up, scoring another run to tie it in the fifth. Patrick Cole drove in the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fifth with a bases loaded walk that was followed by Matt Ross who also drew a walk to force in another run.

In the top of the sixth with runners on second and third, Saratoga's No. 4 hitter smashed a line drive. Vega made a nice backhanded grab and threw to Logan Chapman for the double play and the win.

Game No. 4 for the Los Gatos ended with a win over Lincoln Glen. Vega threw three shutout innings with six outs by way of strikes.

Los Gatos scored five runs in the first. Roley scored twice and Olivet had three hits on the night.

Los Gatos delivered a world of hurt to the Willow Glen all-stars in its third game with a 24-1 victory. Gatos scored 11 runs in the first inning and Vega gave a great performance on the mound, giving up only one unearned run and striking out six. Michael Aguiar threw three shutout innings and also had six K's on the night.

Olivet and Aguiar each smacked four hits and scored three times with four RBIs and Duggan had three hits, scored three times and knocked in three. Roley also had three hits and scored twice, while Chapman nailed three base knocks and scored twice. Ross and Sprintz both came home three times while Cole scored twice.

The only LG National loss in pool play came to its sister team, when Los Gatos National fell to Los Gatos American 10-9.
