Concerts for teens continue, but on the civic center lawn
By Lisa Toth
The Thursday night summer concert series continues this summer, but not in the venue where it started.

The series, which began last summer as an extension of the "Alive ... and Loving Life" movement, held its first free concert July 29 for teenagers in the Old Town Amphitheater in Los Gatos. But the loud, live bands didn't play with the amplification or under the right acoustics that could have offered a better performance.

The concert venue has been changed to the Civic Center front lawn, 110 E. Main St., Los Gatos, and the next concert is slated for 69 p.m. on Aug. 12.

"We didn't really get kicked out. They wanted us to play super quiet, and that's not what kids want," said Nicole Wasserman, a senior at Los Gatos High School and one of the organizers of the concert series.

The company that manages the Old Town property, Federal Realty Investment Trust, dealt with concerns the night of the July 29 concert from California Café, the restaurant closest to the amphitheater.

"It makes it a little difficult for the bands to play what they want to play without disturbing the nearby merchants," said Collette Serpa, assistant marketing manager with Federal Realty. "The concert wasn't as enjoyable as it could have been."

ALL is a program designed to support youth and promote a safe community. The concert series is sponsored by ALL, Community Against Substance Abuse, Friday Night Live and the Los GatosSaratoga Community Education and Recreation Department.
