The filing period closed at the beginning of the month for nominations to be submitted for the Monte Sereno City Council election race. Incumbents Mayor Erin Garner and former Mayor David Baxter were the only two people who filed to run for the positions.
As a result, the council on Aug. 17 voted to reappoint Garner and Baxter, making a November election unnecessary. Garner and Baxter recused themselves from the vote, and Councilwoman Barbara Nesbet was absent from the meeting. This left only Mayor Pro Tempore Curtis Wright and Councilman Mark Brodsky able to vote, and they voted 2-0 in favor of the motion.
"I'm delighted," Garner said. "I thank the council, and I'm looking forward to another four years."
Garner said he hopes to continue safety improvements on Highway 9 and Winchester Boulevard and that he is also planning to continue progress on cultural and public safety-related city commissions. In addition, he's hoping the council will make advances in community building and outreach activities.
