Weekly concerts
made possible
by community
On behalf of the Alive ... And Loving Life Eternity Music Group, we would like to take the time to thank those people who helped us have another successful year. On eight Thursday nights from 6 to 9 p.m. this summer, we had more than 100 young people listening to live bands on the Civic Center Lawn and at The Outhouse. Come join us for our final two shows on Sept. 9 and 16.
We would like to thank: Los Gatos High School student Forest Gallien; Los Gatos Vice Mayor Mike Wasserman and his wife, Kim; Los GatosMonte Sereno Police Chief Scott Seaman and Sgt. Layne Davis; Los GatosSaratoga Community Education and Recreation Department Director Steve Rauwolf; Federal Realty representative Collette Serpa; residents Bob Gallien and Lee Fagot; board members for A Place for Teens; the band members; and everyone who came out and supported the bands.
We plan to continue the tradition of Thursday night music for our youth. See you next summer, and don't forget to join us for our final two concerts on Sept. 9 and 16 from 6 to 9 p.m. at The Outhouse.

Los Gatos
Golf tournament
an excellent
police tradition
On Aug. 30, I was lucky enough to attend the Summer Classic golf tournament put on by the Los Gatos Police Officers Association. And least we not forget, this association is not a function of the town, management or any department; this association is made up of and funded by the working cops themselves. I am not sure exactly which year for the event this is but the annual tournament started in the mid-1990s, during my tenure as POA president, and has improved every year it has been held. This year I found it exceptional, above and beyond any golf tournament I have ever attended.
After all these years and five years after my retirement, I feared the tournament might go by the wayside but I found it is bigger and better than ever, raising money to benefit the department's DARE program.
The POA, now under the very able leadership of Dave Fishback, proved its continuing dedication to the cause and presented a first-class event. The officers once again pulled off this event at their own time and expense, proving they do not do the job for the money but for the greater good of the town they serve. As many of us "old guys" have retired, the many new faces have stepped right up to carry on.
There are too many individuals to commend for the event but I have to mention Johnny Hannegan and Chris Benson for the tremendous support they pour into the tournament every year.
Although it is a three-hour drive for me to attend, I look forward to coming back every year to man the barbecue with the legandary John Jennings. I want to encourage Dave to carry on many future events and encourage local merchants to be as generous as they can in sponsoring the future Los Gatos POA Summer Classics and remember when you see those guys out there working, not only are they dedicated on the clock but also on their precious time off.
Good job boys, I am proud of ya.

Giving tickets
on Highway 9 would help
As a Saratoga resident riding my bike up Highway 9 this weekend, it became clear that our budgetary crisis would be over if we just gave out speeding tickets to the motorcycles who race up this road every weekend. At one point, three motorcycles passed me at least 80 mph; that would be good for a few hundred dollars. I counted about 30 motorcycles speeding during my relatively short ride to the top of the hill. Multiply 30 motorcycles per hour x $300 fine x 8 hours x 8 weekend days = about $60,000 per month.
Seriously, motorcyclists who race up this road do more than just endanger them, they endanger the other traffic including the bicyclists. A couple of our fine sheriffs on this road using radar would help out tremendously by preventing accidents and turning this lovely road into a normal road and not a raceway.
