For anyone who ever wished to have a little slice of Las Vegas without traveling to the desert, the Town of Los Gatos Chamber of Commerce has a solution—and it's a real big deal.
"The Big Deal ... A Night of Charity and Chance," a black-tie casino night, is coming up on Oct. 1 from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Los Gatos Opera House. This unique night offers a variety of features, including Vegas-style gambling, food from 10 different caterers and local restaurants, auctions, cocktails and more. Proceeds will benefit the Silicon Valley Children's Hospital Foundation and the Town of Los Gatos Chamber of Commerce.
"We have partnered with a company called Vegas Magic—they do professional casino parties and rentals," says Ronee Nassi, executive director of the Chamber of Commerce. "There will be craps, roulette, blackjack, pai gow poker and more. It's real people who know what they're doing."
Food will range from appetizers to desserts and will come from such businesses as Village Caterers on Main Street, Kuleto's at the Hotel Los Gatos, Three Degrees restaurant at The Tollhouse, Jen's Cakes, Creating Flavors caterers and more.
Event chairwoman Brenda Hammond, vice president of events for the Chamber of Commerce and head of Creative Flavors, originally suggested that the Chamber partner with the hospital foundation when it was thinking of charities to help benefit with this event, according to Nassi and Saratoga City Councilwoman Kathleen King.
"We wanted to look at the bigger community," said King.
Live and silent auctions will also be held, with Councilman Mike Wasserman acting as auctioneer. Items will include jewelry, wine, box seats at San Francisco Giants games, hockey tickets, vacation home packages, spa and hotel packages and more. One highly anticipated item to be auctioned off is a signed jersey by Olympic gold medal-winning soccer player Brandi Chastain, a Bay Area resident.
"Brandi is on our board, and she plans on raising a family here in San Jose," said King. "She knows that medical facilities for children are a concern."
Tickets are $75, which includes food and gambling chips, and can be purchased at the Town of Los Gatos Chamber of Commerce, located at 349 N. Santa Cruz Ave.
