The Community Hospital of Los Gatos has a Community Lecture Series on an ongoing basis. Below is a listing of classes happening this month and in early November. * Look Good ... Feel Better—Monday, Oct. 11, 6:30 p.m. Cancer services at the Community Hospital of Los Gatos and the American Cancer Society present this seminar for a first step toward renewed self-esteem, self-confidence and emotional recovery for women cancer patients undergoing radiation and/or chemotherapy. A volunteer cosmetologist will teach how to help enhance physical appearance through the use of makeup and head coverings.
* Parkinson & Movement Disorders Screening—Tuesday, Oct. 12, 3 p.m. Screening for: movement and balance; activities of daily living; voice; swallowing; and emotional adjustment.
* Breast Cancer Awareness is Year-Round—Tuesday, Oct. 26, 6:30 p.m. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and general surgeon Dr. Valerie Traina presents information on breast care, breast cancer, early detection and treatment.
* "With My Active Life, I Can't Afford to be in Pain"—Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1 p.m. This Joint Care Program seminar is for those who suffer from aches and pains in the knees and hips.
* Senior Exercise Class—Tuesdays, 9 a.m. or 10 a.m. Ernest Thomas, M.D., director of geriatrics, leads a class in low-impact, low-stress, non-invasive armchair exercises.
* If You're Expecting—Call Parenting and Breastfeeding Servies at 408.866.3905 for a schedule of class dates, times and fees. Call to schedule a free tour of the Family Birth Place. Classes in childbirth preparation, basic baby care, breast-feeding, sibling preparation, infant/child CPR, infant massage and more are available.
The Community Hospital also hosts support groups that meet regularly in Los Gatos. Support groups include Stroke Caregivers and Survivors Support; Fibromyalgia Support; and Colorectal Cancer Support. Most groups meet in or around the hospital.
