How is it that the Los Gatos girls water polo wrapped up the regular season with four straight wins in the El Camino Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League? Well, it was a breeze.
Rather, it was the high scoring of senior Breezy Conner that sparked the Wildcats to wins over Homestead 9-3, Santa Clara 15-3, Wilcox 7-5 and Fremont 11-4. In the four games, Conner pitched in a team-high 14 goals to help the Wildcats breeze to a 9-3 finish in the regular season.
Los Gatos will now take part in the SCVAL tournament through Nov. 6, hoping to qualify for a berth in the Central Coast Section tournament.
Conner and junior Courtney Scallan buried three goals apiece to lead the Cats to the 9-3 win over Homestead last week. Sophomore Nicole Zeiter supported with a pair of goals and junior Jessica Safir added one.
Earlier in the week it was Conner and Zeiter with three goals apiece in a lopsided 15-3 victory over winless Santa Clara. Safir and freshman Ali Niswonger tossed in two goals apiece and senior Ashleigh Weissman and sophomores Caitlin Espe, Lisa Ratzliff and Rita Warkov had one each.
Conner had the hot hand in the 7-5 win over Wilcox, drilling four goals against the Chargers. Safir, Zeiter and Ratzliff added one goal each in the tight win. The Cats took a slim 4-3 lead into the final period before outscoring Wilcox 3-2 to clinch the win.
Conner popped four goals and Ratzliff had three in the 11-4 win over Fremont. Espe, Safir, Warkov and Scallan also scored for the Cats.

Cats get even
It took them three overtime periods to do it, but the Los Gatos boys water polo team pulled out a thrilling 13-12 win over Saratoga to even its record at 3-3 in the De Anza Division of the SCVAL.
Forest Gallien tossed in four goals and Kyle Blair added three to lead the Wildcats to the come-from-behind win over the Falcons. Ben Draa and Jason Stein supported with two goals apiece and Griffin Lerman and David Smith had one each.

Each team scored in the first extra period and they were both scoreless in the second. But Los Gatos scored a goal in the third overtime while blanking the Falcons to clinch the win.

Hockey split
A week that started out with a win ended up on a losing note for the Los Gatos girls field hockey team. The Wildcats clawed their way to a 3-1 win over Lynbrook, but they lost 2-0 to Mitty later in the week.
First-half goals by seniors Caroline Stege and Jessica Saunders helped the Cats jump out to a 2-1 lead over the Vikings at intermission on Tuesday, then senior Bailey Richardson knocked in an insurance goal off an assists from junior Marlana Shile.
But the Wildcats were blanked 2-0 by the Monarchs two days later. Gatos, now 6-3-1 in the Mt.
