An unidentified woman reportedly struck a male bicyclist with her vehicle on Highway 9 last week before fleeing the scene.
The collision occurred at approximately 8:16 a.m. April 1 as the man was riding westbound toward Saratoga, according to traffic officer Kevin Elliot of the Los GatosMonte Sereno Police Department. A sport utility vehicle turning left from eastbound Highway 9 onto Daves Avenue blocked the man's path, causing him to collide with the front right passenger door.
"I'd say it was a pretty clear right-of-way violation," Elliott said.
The man was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor scrapes and bruises.
Another bicyclist was struck by a vehicle on the same highway March 13. Elliott said that incident may have been because the rider was too close to the passing traffic on his left.
"The best advice I could give is to stay as far to the right as you can, and don't travel any faster than you'll be able to react," he said. "Sometimes they're getting so fast on those road bikes that they don't have enough time to stop."
The vehicle involved in the more recent incident is described as a beige or light yellow late-model sport utility vehicle, possibly a Nissan Murano or similar model. The driver is described as a 40- to 50-year-old woman with blonde hair who was wearing a light-colored parka at the time of the accident.
