Los Gatos High School won't be skipping a beat, according to Cindy Ranii, superintendent of the Los Gatos-Saratoga Joint Union High School District.
The district's board of trustees recently appointed current Los Gatos High Assistant Principal Doug Ramezane to the role of principal. Ramezane will begin his assignment effective July 1, taking over the reins following the June 30 retirement of Trudy McCulloch, who served as principal for seven years.
"I feel very fortunate," Ramezane said. "I think we have a great school here at Los Gatos. We have a wonderful group of students, and a competent and caring staff and support from the community, and I look forward to continuing improvement in all these areas."
Ramezane began as a science teacher and coach and eventually turned to administration. The soon-to-be principal, who lives in Los Gatos, came to the high school in 1998, stepping into the role of assistant principal of facilities, athletics and activities. During those years, his responsibilities included operations, activities, facilities, supervision, discipline and the building program. Ramezane's qualifications combine an academic background and 34 years of progressively responsible experience as a secondary educator. Ramezane has also served as a key administrator during the construction and remodeling process going on throughout the Los Gatos High campus.
He was selected following a four-month nationwide search which included a written application, letters of recommendations, an extensive interviewing process and site visits. Staff, students, parents, community members and school board members were involved in the screening and selection process. Ranii made the recommendation to the school board at an April 25 special meeting.
"Doug knows how to get the job done," Ranii said in a press release from the school district. "He is a thoughtful decision-maker who exhibits great caring for the high school and the Los Gatos community. Also, he is a tireless advocate for all students."
Ranii said she made the recommendation sooner than originally expected because the district is now seeking an assistant principal to join Los Gatos High's administrative team to take over Ramezane's position. Ranii is hoping to find a new assistant principal by July 1.
Ramezane has three grown children, and his oldest son teaches social science at Del Mar High School. Ramezane's wife, Harriett, is a resource teacher at Louise Van Meter Elementary School in Los Gatos. Ramezane is a member of the Los Gatos Lions Club and serves on its board of directors.
"I love Los Gatos High School and the Los Gatos community," he said.
