Construction at the LaRinconada Country Club forced the Los Gatos and Saratoga golf teams to the back nine for the final match of the regular season. But Sean McNamara didn't seem to mind the change in scenery one bit.
The Los Gatos junior fired a one-over par 37 on the back nine to lead the Wildcats to a 198-207 victory over the Falcons, and to the championship in the El Camino Division of the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League.
With the win, Gatos wrapped up the regular season with a 10-1-1 record, good for the division crown.
Sophomore David Haken finished just behind McNamara with a 39, following by senior Nat Henry at 40, junior Matt Perrone at 41 and sophomore Nick Schradle at 41. Freshman Ross Pimental finished as the sixth man, firing a 43. He was subbing that day for senior Jeff Collins.
The Wildcats and Falcons had played to a tie a week earlier at the Saratoga Country Club. The only other mar on the Gatos record was a 169-172 loss to Lynbrook on the par-30 Deep Cliff Golf Course. McNamara was one-under with a 29 that day.
McNamara's one-under 35 at the Santa Clara Golf and Tennis Center led the Cats to a 195-223 win over Santa Clara prior to wrapping up the year with the win and tie against Saratoga.
Los Gatos will now look forward to the SCVAL finals set for May 3-4 at the Eagle Ridge Golf Course. Top finishers advance to the Central Coast Section tournament.
